NYSP: Speed, Slick Surface Played Role
A driver has died in a one-car crash on the Southern State Parkway.
On December 28 at approximately 11:32 p.m., New York State Police (NYSP) troopers responded to the Southern State Parkway eastbound just east of Exit 29 (Hicksville Road) in Wantasgh for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver, Abraham Toribio, 20, of Merrick, left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a light pole and multiple trees before coming to rest on the shoulder. Toribio was ejected from the vehicle during the collision and transported to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Unsafe speed and slippery pavement were contributing factors with this collision, according to the NYSP.
