Suffolk County Police arrested a Farmingdale man for allegedly driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle crash that critically injured another driver in Melville.
A man driving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Pinelawn Road attempted to make a left turn onto the Express Drive South at a green light, when the vehicle was struck head-on by a 2025 Mazda CX-7 traveling northbound on Pinelawn Road, also with a green light, at approximately 10 p.m.
The male driver of the Toyota, who has not yet been identified by police, was transported to Plainview Hospital and then transferred to North Shore Community Hospital in Manhasset in critical condition.
The driver of the Mazda, John Ankelman, 59, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 27.
Both vehicles were impounded.
