A Hempstead man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after he allegedly hit a pedestrian in Bellmore.
On November 28 at 12:07 p.m., Nassau County officers responded to a call of an auto accident on Bellmore Avenue in the vicinity of Grand Avenue. Upon arrival, it was determined that Luis Vargas was operating a 2010 Honda northbound on Bellmore Avenue when he allegedly struck a 76-year-old man, who was crossing the street. The pedestrian suffered a serious leg injury and was transported to an area hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
An investigation at the scene determined that Vargas, 19, of 54 Henry Street, was operating the vehicle after consuming alcohol. He was placed under arrest without incident.
POlice charged Vargas with DWI. He was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to First District Court in Hempstead.
