LILP offers a take on illegal immigration you won’t get from Long Island’s liberal media outlets
Every day, there seems to be yet another article in Newsday on how rotten law enforcement officials are for seeking to enforce our immigration laws.
They constantly cite radical not-for-profit groups and sympathetic left-wing officials to make it appear that the illegal aliens are the good guys and the victims, while law enforcement personnel are the bad guys.
The usual suspects quoted are the left-wing advocacy groups such as Ola and Latino Justice, as well as a newly propped-up radical group in Islip that seeks to tip off illegal aliens when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is in the vicinity.
Their rhetoric is glowingly highlighted in these articles which consistently fail to distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants. (Notice how, in this long article, it is never mentioned that these immigrants apprehended by ICE are here illegally.)
The latest absurdity was evident in an article giving the impression that ICE officials had deliberately run over a fleeing illegal immigrant when he himself caused the problem by fleeing the authorities and running into the agents’ passenger door they opened to impede his getaway.
Incorporated into the story were quotes from the Democratic Assembly member from the East End who castigated law enforcement officials for instilling fear into the entire region. Not to be outdone, our newspaper received a press release from Democratic Assemblyman Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove), who echoed support for the illegal aliens.
Perhaps there should be fear for those who are here illegally that, if they are apprehended, they will be deported. It should not be the case that deportation only applies if the person who crossed the border illegally and committed some kind of heinous crime thereafter.
No, it is a crime to enter the country illegally, and to forbid the deportation of those who do so sends a message around the world that you can come here by cutting in line and working illegally off the books, so long as you don’t commit rape or murder thereafter. But even then, the illegal alien advocates try so desperately to gum up the works that it takes years for federal authorities to get even those hardened criminals out of the country.
If any American citizen were to travel to another country and overstay his or her visa, they would be deported upon being apprehended. So why the double standard?
We must stop the media spin, castigating those seeking to enforce our immigration laws as being evil, coldhearted individuals.
What’s coldhearted is ignoring the millions of people patiently and properly waiting in line.
What’s inhumane is allowing legitimate businesses that try to play by the rules by paying health benefits and Workers’ Comp to go bankrupt because their competition is hiring from the illegal underground economy.
What’s unfair is that our young adults are being priced out of rental apartments because of a shrinking supply of rental units due to migrants flooding the market.
What’s inhumane is what has happened to emergency room access for American citizens because so many illegal aliens are flooding these hospitals.
What’s inhumane is the fact that hundreds of thousands of young people were allowed to immigrate into this country unaccompanied by an adult and have fallen into the slave and sex trades.
What is inhumane is how many people have died or been raped on the long trek from South America to our southern border.
The prior administration made a mess of our border and allowed over 10 million illegal immigrants to come here, forcing up rents and forcing taxpayers to spend billions for transportation, healthcare, food and housing for those who shouldn’t be here in the first place.
When will these articles start giving the perspective of all of those people who’ve been harmed by illegal immigration? Don’t hold your breath.
