Driver Arrested for Fatal Copiague Crash

Suffolk County police arrested a Copiague man for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident after he allegedly struck and killed another man.

On November 5 at 8:44 p.m., Louis Lasusa, 69, of Massapequa Park, was walking northbound across Montauk Highway, when he was struck by a westbound gray sedan in front of 1051 Montauk Highway at 8:44 p.m. The driver, Lloyd Berger, then allegedly fled the scene, continuing westbound on Montauk Highway.

Lasusa was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

On November 7, Berger, 64, 104 25th Street, Copiague, was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash involving a fatality. He was held at the Third Precinct and  arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 8.
