Long Island Farm Bureau’s Bill Zalakar to Speak at LIMBA

Bill Zalakar, the executive director of Long Island Farm Bureau, will be the guest speaker at LIMBA (Long Island Metro Business Action) on November 14. This event will take place at the Candlelight Diner, located at 56 Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack, starting at 8:30 a.m. Zalakar will speak on the topic of “Growing Long Island’s Agricultural Future.”

Zalakar brings more than 45 years of diverse experience in the agricultural industry. His expertise spans horticultural business, regulatory affairs and personnel management.

Before assuming his current role, Zalakar served as director of facilities and general manager at Kurt Weiss Greenhouses for 28 years, helping the company become one of the leading horticultural operations in the U.S.

A past president of the Long Island and New York City Farm Bureaus, Zalakar revitalized key committees and strengthened connections between traditional and urban agriculture. He currently serves on multiple New York Farm Bureau committees, including Promotion & Education, Labor, Membership and Cannabis/Hemp.

Zalakar’s dedication to agricultural advancement has earned him numerous honors, including the Horticulture Industry Leadership Award in 2020 and the James Quinn Award in 2022.

A graduate of Penn State University, Zalakar holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticultural Business.
