A Yonkers man was arrested and a second suspect is wanted for allegedly scamming an elderly woman out money by claiming she needed to have her roof replaced.
In October 2024, a 78 year old female victim was approached at her home by an unknown male, allegedly claiming that she needed a new roof. The victim agreed to have construction work done for an estimated $70,000, but, over the next couple months, the male kept requesting more and more money. The victim issued multiple checks totaling $398,000, but the work was not completed.
On September 9, 2025, at 10:47 a.m., Michael Anderson, 35, of 189 Winfred Avenue, was placed under arrest when he responded to the victim’s home to pick up a check for $75,000. The investigation is ongoing for the additional unknown male involved in this incident.
Police charged Anderson with Attempted Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree. He was released on an Appearance Ticket and taken into custody by U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents.
Detectives request anyone who may have been a victim of the above defendant to contact the Fifth Squad at (516) 573-6553.
