DWI Arrest Made after Motorcyclist Killed in Crash

Suffolk County Police arrested a man for allegedly driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle crash killed a motorcyclist in Stony Brook. 

Jerry Diaz was riding a 2022 Honda 450RLCRF westbound on Nesconset Highway, when the motorcycle collided with a northbound 2017 GMC truck turning left onto westbound Nesconset Highway from New Moriches Road on September 6 at 12:22 a.m. 

Diaz, 24, of Nesconset, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the  Suffolk County Medical Examiner.  

The driver of the GMC, Mark Anthony Giordano, 25, of St. James, was charged with Driving While  Intoxicated. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First  District Court in Central Islip on September 6. 

The vehicles were impounded. Major Case Unit detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call 631-852-6553.
