Suffolk County police arrested a Lake Ronkonkoma woman for allegedly hitting a teen electric bicycle rider and then leaving the scene.
Travis Wertovitch was riding an electric bicycle northbound on Hawkins Avenue on August 26 when he was struck by a southbound 2012 white Ford Fusion as it turned left onto School Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. The Ford fled the scene traveling eastbound on School Street.
Wertovitch, 13, of Ronkonkoma, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Following an investigation, Fourth Squad detectives arrested Virginia Waka, 47, of 1 Wellington Court, on August 27 and charged her with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Injury. She was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
