A great deal of attention has centered on President Trump‘s aggressive move to take control of law enforcement in Washington, D.C., which has become one of the murder capitals of the nation.
However, less attention has been focused on another tactic the president is employing in our nation’s capital that, if successful, can take off throughout the U.S. with enormously positive results. I’m talking about the shutting down of homeless individuals taking over public areas as their own personal space.
We see it now in almost every blue city throughout the country. The ACLU, Legal Aid Society and other far-left organizations have joined forces with Democratic mayors and city councils to allow homeless people to pitch tents in parks, subways, and sidewalks and claim the areas as their own.
Homeless individuals need to be treated with sensitivity and understanding. One thing often overlooked is that the vast majority of the homeless on our streets are suffering from mental illness and/or drug and alcohol addiction. Experiments allowing the addicted to stay in their street tents while providing them clean needles have proven to be a futile disaster. These individuals are defecating on the streets and living in horribly unsanitary conditions.
Trump is following the playbook from Rudy Giuliani, who cleaned up New York City in the 90s by approaching the homeless and giving them the opportunity to have clean shelter and social services assistance. They were no longer allowed to just take over parks and sidewalks. It worked magnificently, the homeless and addicted were treated better and the city rebounded because people were no longer fearful of traveling in these locations.
Trump is laying down the law in D.C., just as Giuliani did in New York City, and he’s even suggested that he will take this tactic to other cities as well.
It is truly remarkable that Americans have tolerated this for so long. How disgraceful that California Governor Gavin Newsom would facilitate these homeless encampments for over a decade, but suddenly move the homeless along when Chinese Premier Xi made a visit to California.
If only these leftist Democratic officials would treat their citizens with the same reverence they shower upon foreign communist dictators when they come to town.
