Uber Driver Arrested for Menacing, Gun Possession

A Roosevelt man working as an Uber driver was arrested for menacing and gun possession in Atlantic Beach.

On August 23 at 11:43 p.m., James Watson, 63, of 2 2nd Place, who was working as an Uber driver, allegedly threatened a 30-year-old female victim by displaying a handgun and refused to let her enter his vehicle in the vicinity of 2035 Ocean Boulevard.  Fearing for her safety, the victim canceled the ride and Watson fled the scene.

Officers located the defendant near the intersection of Nassau Expressway and Park Street where they initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.  While conducting an investigation, officers recovered a handgun and placed him under arrest without further incident.

Police charged Watson with Menacing in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. He was scheduled to be arraigned on August 24 at First District Court in Hempstead.
