Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico and Councilwoman Jane Bonner joined together at 1 Sunken Valley Road in Mount Sinai to oversee the demolition of a long-vacant and blighted property. The demolition began August 19 and was carried out by the town’s Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management, in coordination with the Law and Public Safety Departments.

The house, which had been vacant for years, had become a source of concern for neighbors due to its unsafe condition and negative impact on the community. Its removal represents another step in the Town’s ongoing efforts to address quality-of-life issues by eliminating unsafe structures throughout Brookhaven. The property was demolished in accordance with Chapter 73 of the Town Code which provides a “fast track” to rid neighborhoods of unsafe structures.

“For far too long, this property stood as a blight in the neighborhood,” said Councilwoman Bonner. “Its demolition is a positive step forward for Mount Sinai, and I thank our Town departments for their work to restore safety and peace of mind for local residents.”
