Roosevelt Man Arrested for Criminal Possession of a Gun

Allegedly Menaced Teenager at High School

A Roosevelt man has been arrested for criminal possession of a gun after he allegedly displayed the firearm to a student at the local high school.

On August 18 at 6:00 p.m, a male victim, 17, was allegedly approached by Eybin Umana, at Roosevelt High School, located at 1 Wagner Avenue, and was involved in a verbal argument. Umana then lifted his shirt and allegedly exposed the handle of a black firearm that was tucked into his waistband. He then stated to the victim to wait for him in the parking lot.  The victim, in fear for his life, ran from scene and police were notified. Umana then left scene on foot and was last seen walking southbound on Denton Place.

Umana, 40, of 164 Grenada Avenue, was charged with Menacing in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on August 21 in First District Court in Hempstead.
