The Town of Smithtown honored John Gonzalez, Technology Security Coordinator in the Department of Public Safety, at its Town Board meeting last week.
The town’s new tradition, introduced in June, aims to celebrate employees whose work exemplifies service above self. The Board begins each meeting by highlighting one employee who’s made a lasting impact on their community. Gonzalez was honored for saving taxpayers money, strengthening public safety and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
The Town of Smithtown plans to continue and grow this tradition going forward.
“John’s ingenuity has saved the taxpayers millions—from developing the Town of Smithtown’s mobile app at no cost, to installing live-streaming systems in our parks that connect families, support athletic leagues, local businesses, and put Smithtown on the map for major sporting events,” said Town of Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim. “His work creating our state-of-the-art security camera network has saved lives, helped first responders act quickly in emergencies, and kept our community safer than ever before.”
