Suffolk County Police arrested two teenagers after they crashed a stolen motor vehicle into a residence in Mastic Beach.
Seventh Precinct officers in an unmarked police vehicle observed a 2014 Kia Optima at the intersection of Mastic Road and Patchogue Avenue in Mastic Beach at approximately 4:30 p.m. The Kia had been reported stolen earlier. When marked patrol units arrived, the Kia fled before it could be stopped.
Minutes later, the Kia crashed into the residence located at 196 Washington Ave. The driver was apprehended as he allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot while the only passenger remained in the vehicle. Both were transported to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
There were no other reported injuries. The Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal responded to assess structural damage to the residence. The Kia was impounded.
Seventh Squad detectives charged the two 16-year-old males, who are not being identified due to their age, with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree. They were issued Field Appearance Tickets and will be arraigned at the Youth Part of First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
