Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating an incident in which a man died after being hit by a car in Lindenhurst.
Mariano Diaz-Pichardo was walking his bike across Sunrise Highway at the intersection of Buffalo Avenue on August 7 when his bicycle was struck by a Hino box truck attempting to avoid him. Diaz-Pichardo was then struck by a Ford F550 at 9:10 a.m.
Diaz-Pichardo, 60, of Lindenhurst, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the box truck, Manuel Lucero-Lucero, 30, of Bay Shore, and the driver of the Ford, Steven Mitchell, 54, of Ronkonkoma, were not injured.
The Motor Carrier Safety Section conducted safety checks of the vehicles.
