Deputy Sheriff Rescues Injured Hawk from Roadway in Eastport

On August 2, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the rescue of an injured hawk in Eastport.

At approximately 7:00 a.m., a deputy sheriff observed an injured animal on County Road 51. She retrieved the animal, identified as a red-tailed hawk, and deputy sheriffs began contacting local wildlife shelters to seek veterinary treatment.  The hawk was safely transported to STAR Foundation Wildlife Rescue in Middle Island and taken into their care for assessment and treatment.
