Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Manorville.
Bruce Bihary was operating a 2011 Can-Am motorcycle eastbound on the Long Island Expressway, west of Exit 69, when he crashed into the attenuator portion of a Department of Transportation vehicle — a 2017 Hino truck — that was closing traffic for construction on the highway on August 3 at approximately 8:50 p.m.
Bihary, 71, of Riverhead, was airlifted via police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition. The driver of the Hino truck, Jose Fernandez, 38, of Shirley was not injured. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check. Members of the Motor Carrier Safety Section responded and conducted a safety check of the Hino at the scene.
