Hempstead Man Arrested for Aggravated DWI

A 38-year old Hempstead man was arrested for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated in Oceanside.

On July 17 at 1:33 a.m., Nassau County officers observed a silver 2005 Jeep commit a vehicle and traffic law infraction while traveling in the vicinity of West Windsor Parkway and Long Beach Road. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle Traffic Law (VTL) stop near the intersection of Long Beach Road. 

The operator of the vehicle, Denis Peraza Martinez, of 565 Fulton Ave, allegedly had glassy eyes and had an odor of alcohol emanating from his breath. A Standard Field Sobriety Test was conducted resulting in positive results and Peraza Martinez was placed under arrest without incident. The vehicle’s 3-month-old female passenger was safely released into the custody of a family member.

Peraza Martinez is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child Under 16) under Leandra’s Law, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated and a Vehicle and Traffic Law infraction. 

Peraza Martinez will be arraigned on July 17 at First District Court, Hempstead.
