Everyone should read the article penned by Bjorn Lomborg, an environmentalist at the Copenhagen Consensus that was published in the New York Post a few weeks ago.
His article was prompted by the hysteria that resulted from a number of hot days that were recorded across the U.S. It was coupled with fear-mongering from the left, claiming that heat is causing all of these unnecessary deaths.
But Lomborg is quick to retort that these alarmists never add into their articles the fact that far more people are killed by the cold each year than they are from heat. And, in fact, warming temperatures over the last decade or so have actually led to far fewer overall weather-related deaths.
Lomborg also cited stats that show your chance of dying in a weather-related event was 90% greater 100 years ago than it is today.
So why the fear-mongering? It’s because fear prompts the populace to submit to the so-called “experts” who claim they’ll be able to save everyone if you just give them all your money and sacrifice all your decision-making to them — the elite.
Cottage industries have sprung up from activists and Non Profit Groups (NGOs) trying to save the polar bears, despite the fact that there are more polar bears today than 20 years ago.
Or to stop weather-related deaths, even though those numbers are down from bygone eras.
Remember when AOC told us six years ago that the world was going to end six years from now if we don’t tame the climate beast?
Well, the U.S. and western Europe expended trillions and trillions of dollars in virtue signaling to stem these temperature increases. It’s been wildly unsuccessful, as China, India and the third world continue to pollute unabated.
As Lomborg says, climate change is real and is a concern, but it won’t be solved by weakening Western democracy or by making life unaffordable for us. It will be solved through innovation and the development of cleaner, more pragmatic energy sources, as well as increasing nuclear energy output. Let’s direct our money and energies there and stop the histrionics.
