A homeless man and illegal immigrant was arrested for allegedly committing two burglaries in Island Park.
On June 16, Jean Barroso, 27, allegedly pried open the rear door of Ananau Peruvian Cuisine located at 4547 Austin Boulevard in an attempt to gain entry into Saatchi Jewelry located at 4545 Austin Boulevard. When he could not gain entry through the businesses, Barroso allegedly went onto the roof and successfully gained access into Saatchi Jewelry. Once inside, the defendant allegedly removed assorted jewelry valued at approximately $22,000 and fled the scene. After a thorough investigation, Barroso was identified and arrested without incident.
Police charged Barroso with two counts of third-degree burglary and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 10 at First District Court in Hempstead.
Further investigation revealed that Barroso is not here legally in the United States. His next Immigration Court appearance is scheduled for July 17.
