An East Garden City man was arrested after allegedly trying to use counterfeit money at a store in Westbury.

On July 6 at approximately 6:35 p.m., officers responded to the Best Buy located at 1100 Old Country Road after receiving reports that a man had attempted to pay for merchandise with fake bills.

While en route, Third Precinct officers observed a man on nearby Corporate Drive who matched the suspect’s description. After conducting an investigation, police arrested Jourdan Clark, 25, of 1300 Mitchell Field Way, without incident. Officers say they found counterfeit currency in Clark’s pocket, along with a purple liquid believed to be codeine.

Clark is charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Attempted Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, and a violation of the Mask Transparency Act.

He was arraigned on July 7 at First District Court in Hempstead.
