By a 231-182 vote, the House of Representatives passed the Special Interest Alien Reporting Act of 2025. One of the Long Island congresspeople who voted for the legislation said this is vital in ensuring the safety of local families.
Sponsored by Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) and introduced on January 9, the Act would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to report every month the number of non-U.S. nationals who attempt to unlawfully enter the United States and who potentially pose a national security risk. Additionally, the DHS would have to record the nationalities or countries of the aliens’ last residence and the location of the encounters.
Reporting would start one month after the bill becomes law. It would also include a retrospective report covering January 20, 2021 through January 19, 2025.
“Americans deserve to know who is coming into our country — especially when national security is at stake,” said Nick LaLota (R-Rocky Point). “This bill ensures Congress has the data it needs to hold agencies accountable, craft smarter policy, and protect our communities. The safety of Long Island families will always come first.”
