With rare exceptions, progressive blue cities continue to vote for the same radical progressive politicians that have made their cities unaffordable to live in and laden with crime and their schools violent and underperforming.
And yet, these Democratic voters continue to live up to Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
Time after time, liberal Democrats in blue cities elect, then reelect, horrible mayors and city council members who destroy their cities.
New York City voters did it in 2013 when they knowingly voted for Bill de Blasio, a self-described socialist who wanted to dismantle the crime fighting measures of prior mayors that helped drop city crime to its lowest levels ever.
Mayor de Blasio wreaked havoc on New York and took it from being the best city in America to among the worst. Amazingly, New York City liberal Democrats reelected him.
Now they have to choose who will lead them after the horrible downturn in New York City over the last decade. There is a good chance they will be supporting a Communist and anti-semite — Zohran Mamdani — who has promised to defund the police. It is absolutely remarkable that this 33-year-old ingrate with such dumb beliefs is getting so much traction. And with the craziness of ranked choice, voting there’s an outside possibility he can win.
It’s a similar pattern to what we saw in Chicago when voters said they had enough of far-left Lori Lightfoot, who oversaw terribly performing schools and an outrageously high murder rate. Those voters had a choice between a sensible, moderate Democrat, who believed in law and order, and Brendan Johnson, a self-described Marxist. Amazingly, they chose the Marxist. He now has an 8% approval rating.
Liberal Californians saw slick Governor Gavin Newsom destroy their state, with ridiculously unrealistic green energy plans that gave them $6-a-gallon gas and rent and housing costs that were unaffordable. He spent billions trying to deal with the homeless problem, only to see it grow worse as he let people take over sidewalks and parks with their tents. He even allowed people to defecate on the streets. When there was an effort to recall him, it was rejected overwhelmingly.
These people are masochists.
Los Angelenos had a choice years ago to vote for a moderate law-and-order candidate or Marxist Karen Bass. Guess who they chose? The Marxist. She allowed her reservoirs to run dry and fires destroyed the homes of California. And she is an advocate for criminal illegal aliens to be sheltered in her sanctuary city.
As of this moment, Cuomo is the favorite to win in New York, but anything can happen. Incredibly, Cuomo, whose leftist policies increased the dysfunction of the city through cashless bail and sanctuary policies, is now considered the “moderate” in an otherwise looney race.
Then again, there’s another alternative in November — Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.
