Town Prepares for Memorial Day Weekend

The Town of East Hampton is ready for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all residents and visitors. The town’s police department, marine patrol, ordinance enforcement, fire prevention department and recreation department have thoughtfully planned and staffed shifts to provide comprehensive coverage throughout the holiday weekend.

For the town’s police department, shifts will be fully staffed around the clock over the long weekend, with supplemental staffing of part-time officers during overnight hours. Foot patrols will be on duty along Main Street in Montauk and Amagansett, focused on quality-of-life violations and traffic safety. In addition, STOP DWI overtime shifts have been assigned to further ensure road safety, and traffic control officers will be on duty each day.

As a reminder, drivers are urged to move over and yield to emergency vehicles, including fire and ambulance responders. Clearing the way promptly can help save lives and ensure first responders reach their destinations safely.

All marine, ordinance enforcement, and fire prevention patrols will be fully staffed and on duty from Thursday through Monday. Marine Patrol will conduct boat patrols of Three Mile Harbor, Gardiner’s Bay, Fort Pond Bay, and Montauk Harbor and will have regular patrols on both ocean and bay beaches from Montauk to Wainscott.

The Fire Prevention Division is prepared for the season and will be working closely with other Town agencies to help ensure public safety throughout the summer.

Drivers are reminded to move over and yield to emergency vehicles, including fire, ambulance, and East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue responders. Clearing the way promptly helps ensure first responders can reach their destinations safely.

Lifeguarded beaches will open May 24 at Indian Wells, Atlantic Avenue, South Edison and Ditch Plains (as conditions allow) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at Big Albert’s Landing (Bay Beach) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Comfort stations will be cleaned frequently and closed overnight and trash removal will occur early each morning.

Emergency travel lanes will be kept clear and monitored. Smoking and pet restrictions during lifeguarded hours will be enforced.

Town offices will be closed for Memorial Day, but recycling operations will remain open. Both the East Hampton Recycling Center and the Montauk Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for residential use and 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for commercial use (limited commercial use at the transfer station).
