For nearly 40 years, Ed Shine, Chris Breheny, Scottie Campbell and Patrick Wright have been good friends — their friendship stretching back to their days at Patchogue-Medford High School. Now, they have come together to accomplish their dream of owning a bar.

The four co-owners of Fadeley’s Deli Bar celebrated the grand opening of their establishment on May 9, with local elected officials and members of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce in attendance.

Fadeley’s opened in September 2024, Shine said. The building opened up in 1973. When the original building opened up, “it was like that already,” Shine said of the deli/pub concept. “We came in and fixed [the place] up.”

Not only did they fix up the inside, they fixed up the outside as well. “There was a picnic table back there,” Wright said. “It was unfinished and we just polished it up.”

“We put up a new fence,” Shine added. “We made [the outside backyard area] into a German beer garden.”

The original bar served strictly beer, Shine said, but when he and his friends bought the place, they applied for and received their liquor license.

“We liked the space,” Shine said. “It was really cool, so we cleaned it up.”

Shine said there are 12 beers on tap, including Guinness. All the German beers are “high-end,” Wright said. “That’s what the regulars like; that’s why they come here.”

The bar also serves food, Shine said, consisting of pizza, hot dogs and German bratwurst. He said there are plans to expand the menu. “We’re in the process of redoing the kitchen.”

In addition to beer, liquor and food, Fadeley’s also has music. One can hear classic rock bands from the jukebox; in fact, the building opened up the same year that Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Led Zeppelin’s Houses of the Holy and the all-time best-selling Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd were released.

The bar has live music from Tuesday through Sunday. But, “even on Mondays, some people come in to play or just to jam,” Shine said, adding that Tuesday is “Open Mic Night.”

So, what type of people would come to Fadeley’s? Well, everyone.

“It’s a great mix,” Wright said. “You got regulars, you got curious people who want to check [the bar] out, music people, and beer people.”

“A lot of people in the neighborhood come in too,” Shine added.

For the customers, there is the 100 Liter Club. Anyone who finishes 100 liters of beer gets their name on the wall and a sweatshirt.

The best part of running the bar, said Co-Owner Scottie Campbell, is the camaraderie among the other owners. “We’re guys who grew up together, best friends,” he said. “It’s always fun to come to work every day.”
