A Freeport man has been arrested for allegedly stealing items from a Hempstead store three months ago.
On February 19 at 8:57 a.m., Hempstead Village Police responded to 401 Fulton Avenue at the Bravo Market for a robbery that had just occurred. The unknown suspect allegedly concealed multiple grocery items and left the store without paying. When approached by loss prevention officers, he allegedly displayed a switchblade knife at the victims. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived and no injuries were reported.
After a thorough investigation, detectives identified and located Lucius Jenkins Jr., 25, of 71 Woodside Avenue, at the Holiday Inn, located at 369 Old Country Road, Carle Place. When officers attempted to place Jenkins into custody, he was violent and combative while resisting arrest.
Subsequent to Jenkins’ arrest, it was determined he was responsible for a petit larceny that happened on February 14, 2024 at BJ’s, located at 600 Brush Hollow Road, Westbury. On November 7, 2024 officers initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop of Jenkins’ vehicle, when he was uncooperative. He then fled the scene in his vehicle, striking a police officer, who suffered minor injuries, and hitting a police vehicle, causing damage. He also struck a parked vehicle that was unoccupied, causing damage.
Police charged Jenkins with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, petit larceny and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was scheduled to be arraigned on May 13, 2025 at First District Court in Hempstead.
