Fire at Rockville Centre Apartment Complex Claims Life of Woman

A woman has died after being rescued from a fire inside an apartment complex.

On May 8 at 7:12 p.m., the Rockville Centre police responded to an apartment fire that occurred at 274 North Central Avenue. Upon arrival, they observed that the kitchen area was engulfed in flames with black smoke. The Rockville Centre Fire Department also responded and extinguished the fire.

A 95-year-old female victim that attempted to extinguish the fire was found with severe burns to her torso and limbs. The victim was transported by a Northwell Ambulance to a local nearby hospital for treatment. The victim was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 1:02 p.m.

The Nassau County Arson Bomb Squad responded to the scene. The fire was not deemed to be suspicious.

The investigation is ongoing.
