Driver Charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, DWI in Massapequa Crash

Operator of Three-Wheeled Motorcycle Killed

A Medford man was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated for causing a crash in Massapequa that resulted in the death of another person.

On April 19 at 9:03 p.m., Brian Romero Guy August, operating a 2023 white Bentley SUV, with a 30-year-old male passenger, was facing eastbound and was stopped in the left turning lane at Unqua Road. August decided to turn right and cross all lanes of traffic on Sunrise Highway.

A white Polaris Slingshot 3-wheeled motorcycle being driven by a 48-year-old male, with his 47-year-old female passenger, was traveling eastbound in the middle lane on Sunrise Highway when the Bentley struck their vehicle. The collision then caused the motorcycle to collide with a white KIA SUV that was facing northbound and stopped at a traffic light on Unqua Road and then to strike a utility pole.

The KIA was being operated by a 44-year-old male and was occupied with a 41-year-old female and four juveniles ages 11, 10, 8 and 2. No occupants in the KIA were injured.

August and the passenger of the Bentley were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The operator of the Slingshot suffered severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a hospital physician. The female passenger in the Slingshot also suffered serious injuries but is currently listed in stable condition.

August, 19, of Medford was placed under arrest. He is charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter and second-degree and Driving While Intoxicated. He will be arraigned once he is released from the hospital.
