The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has once again recognized the Town of East Hampton with its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the Town’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2023. This marks the third consecutive year that East Hampton has received this prestigious distinction, a testament to the town’s commitment to transparency and high standards in financial reporting.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. It is awarded by an impartial panel that evaluates whether a municipality’s financial report meets the rigorous standards of the program, including demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the town’s financial story and encourage engagement from residents and stakeholders.

“This achievement reflects the dedication and professionalism of our Finance Department,” said East Hampton Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez. “We extend a special thank you to our incredible finance team, especially Deputy Budget Officer Neide Valeira, for their ongoing commitment to excellence in financial management. Their hard work ensures that our residents continue to receive accurate and transparent financial reporting.”

Town Administrator and Budget Officer Becky Hansen added, “Earning this award for three consecutive years is a true reflection of the diligence and expertise of our finance team. Their work upholds the highest standards of financial accountability and transparency, ensuring that we continue to serve the people of East Hampton with integrity. I’m incredibly proud of our efforts and this well-deserved recognition.”

The GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, and resources to more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve.
