Roosevelt Man Arrested at Traffic Stop for Gun Possession

A Roosevelt man arrested early this morning after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a loaded weapon.

On March 12 at 1:03 a.m., a 2016 Dodge Charger traveling southbound on Babylon Turnpike was stopped for speeding near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and St. Francis Street. Upon investigation, a loaded Taurus 40 Caliber handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Victor Lemanya, 19, from Roosevelt, is charged with first-, second- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a firearm and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions.

Lemanya was scheduled to be arraigned later today at First District Court in Hempstead.
