Suffolk County police arrested a man for selling a tobacco product to an underage person during a compliance check at an East Islip business.
In response to numerous community complaints, officers from the Third Precinct Investigative Unit conducted an investigation into the sale of alcohol, tobacco, and vape products to underage people at multiple businesses. One establishment was found not to be in compliance.
Abdulrahman Hauter, an employee at City of Smoke, located at 64 Carleton Ave., allegedly sold a vape atomizer to an underage person on March 9 at 7:09 p.m.
Hauter, 24, of 817 Prospect Ave., Westbury, was charged with Sale of Restricted E-Cigarettes to a Person Less than 21, a misdemeanor. He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 28.
During the investigation, the business was also found to be in possession of flavored vape products, which violates the New York State Public Health Law. Over 1,500 flavored vapes were seized from the location.
