
A Queens woman was arrested after she was recorded physically abusing an elderly woman in her care in Woodmere.
According to Nassau County Fourth Squad detectives, an 83-year-old woman who suffers from a cognitive disorder was found to have a significant amount of bruising on her body. The victim’s legal guardian asked the caretaker how she got these bruises. The caretaker told the guardian that she had a series of falls.
The concerned legal guardian placed a camera in the home. While watching the camera footage, a woman was observed physically abusing the victim by striking, grabbing, yanking and punching the victim’s face and body. Police were notified and Merlyn Fredericks, 36, of 11820 155th Street was arrested without incident.
Frederick was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent/physically disabled person and second-degree endangering a vulnerable elderly/incompetent person. She was scheduled to be arraigned on March 7 at First District Court in Hempstead.
