A homeless man has been arrested for menacing after allegedly brandishing a knife at two teenage girls and at police.
On March 6 at 4 p.m., Nassau County Fourth Squad officers responded to a McDonald’s, located at 365 Rockaway Turnpike, for a suspicious male with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers were informed that Antonio Reyes, 47, was allegedly involved in a verbal argument with two teenage girls, ages 14 and 15. The argument escalated and Reyes pointed a knife at the two girls, placing them in fear for their lives. They immediately ran from the restaurant and contacted police.
A short time later, officers located Reyes and attempted to place him into custody when he allegedly began menacing officers with the knife and disregarded numerous verbal commands. Officers used an Electronic Control Device (ECD) and Oleoresin Capsicum spray (OC spray) which successfully allowed them to place him into custody. He was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Reyes was charged with menacing a police officer, two counts of second-degree menacing, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
