Management of Docks, Moorings Changes Hands

The Town of East Hampton is streamlining the management of town docks and moorings by transferring administrative duties from the Town Clerk’s Office to the East Hampton Town Marine Patrol/Harbormasters Office. According to the town, this change is designed to enhance efficiency and improve service for local boaters.

As part of this transition, the Marine Patrol/Harbormasters Office will introduce an online application system for dockage and mooring permits, which is expected to launch by March 15. To accommodate the transition, the deadline for slip renewal applications has been extended to April 15, 2025, giving permit holders additional time to adjust to the new system.

“Our goal is to make the application and renewal process more accessible and user-friendly for all slip and mooring permit holders,” said Senior Harbormaster Timothy B. Treadwell, commanding officer of the East Hampton Town Police Department Marine Division. “We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we implement these improvements.”

East Hampton Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez emphasized the town’s commitment to modernizing operations. “Moving the administration of town docks and moorings to Marine Patrol is a commonsense step that will create a more efficient and responsive system for our boating community,” she said. “With the addition of an online application process, we’re making it easier than ever for residents to secure their permits and enjoy our beautiful harbors and waterways.”

Further details and instructions regarding the updated process will be provided in the coming weeks. For questions or concerns, boat owners are encouraged to contact Treadwell at ttreadwell@ehtpd.org.
