Local Officials Should Work with ICE, Not against Them

The American public spoke loud and clear, saying that they were fed up with the open border policies of the Biden administration. They not only want the border controlled, but they want those who were allowed to illegally enter in the last few years to be deported. In fact, a solid majority are in favor of deporting all of these recent illegal border crossers, not just those who have committed crimes since they’ve gotten here.

So one would think that Donald Trump’s efforts to secure the border would be applauded across the board. However, still prevalent is the illegal immigration lobby, which has been continuously supported by a liberal, biased media and the leadership of the Democratic Party.

Notice we said leadership, and not the rank-and-file registered Democrat. Indeed, the average Democrat in America does not want unbridled illegal immigration. Democratic leadership, however, is totally invested in the not for profit groups and radical entities such as the ACLU that hover around the halls of Congress.

Huge sums are funneled from the government via Democrat-sponsored bills to the NGOs (non-government organizations), who actively assist illegals to cross the border and get settled here and then give them free legal services to fight ICE to remain here.

Come election time, the minions who work within these NGOs return a favor by walking the streets for those leftist politicians.

So it shouldn’t be surprising that we have Democratic leaders throughout the country continuing to fight the new administration’s efforts to deport even criminal illegal aliens. Boy Mayor, Jacob Frey of Minneapolis, who oversaw the destruction of his city during the George Floyd riots, even acquiescing to the burning down of their police station, basically told illegal aliens at a presser last week that they are “loved” and continue to be welcomed in the city. The mayors of Chicago and Boston also affirmatively stated that they will do everything in their power to fight federal agents from carrying out the law to deport those who broke our laws to get into this country, even those who committed crimes while here.

And here on Long Island, we even have some officials saying they won’t work with the feds. Kudos to Riverhead’s supervisor for noting that he will be supportive of the feds’ effort to rid our streets of criminal illegal aliens.

Others have been anxious to jump in front of the microphone to say that they will not cooperate. The question is how far will they take it. https://paper.newsday.com/html5/reader/production/default.aspx?edid=08307cef-46fb-4000-a68d-88862efde567&pnum=11

The supervisors of Southold and East Hampton are making statements that deserve further scrutiny. If they’re merely saying that individuals contacting the police as either victims or witnesses will not be asked their immigration status, then we totally agree with them.

If, on the other hand, they’re saying that individuals arrested will not be asked their status, that’s where we drew the line. If a person is arrested, we should know if they’re here legally or not, and if they are, federal officials should know about it.

Hopefully, our Long Island officials will not take the crazy radical left positions that the mayors of Minneapolis, Chicago and Boston are now hyping.
