Nassau County officers arrested a Hempstead woman for an incident that happened in East Meadow.
On February 10 at about 1:02 p.m., Tomeka Barton, 46, of 25 Tyler Avenue, entered Flagstar Bank, located at 1900 Hempstead Turnpike. She tried to open a business account and take out a large amount of money with an ID that was not hers. Barton wore a mask to hide her face.
Bank workers recognized her as someone who had tried to open accounts the previous week at a separate location and quickly called the police. Once the police arrived, Barton was arrested without incident.
Barton was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, identity theft in the first degree, forgery in the second degree, attempted grand larceny in the second degree, criminal impersonation in the second degree, unlawful possession of personal identification in the third degree, and Title 90-Mask Transparency Act. She is scheduled to be arraigned on February 11 at First District Court.
