Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man who was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water in Babylon.
Marine Bureau officers responded to Gilgo Beach after a good Samaritan pulled an unresponsive surfer from the water on January 19 at approximately 2:20 p.m. The man was pulled to shore where CPR was initiated.
Jack Shapiro, 54, of Holbrook, was transported via ambulance to Good Samaritan University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death will be determined by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office.
