A Uniondale man was arrested to attempting to kill a woman during an argument.

On January 7 at 9:30 p.m., Milton Mendez, 45, was involved in an argument with a female victim, 39.  As the argument escalated, Mendez grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed the victim multiple times in the face and on her hands.  The victim suffered multiple lacerations and lost a significant amount of blood.

A nine-year-old girl witnessed the argument and attempted to stop the attack. Mendez grabbed her around the neck and applied pressure, making it difficult for her to breathe. He then proceeded to punch the 9-year-old on the right side of her head, causing her pain and swelling.  The girl continued to try and get the knife away from Mendez as he cut both of her hands, causing lacerations.  The 9-year-old victim and a third female, 17, exited the home and called 911.

Nassau County First Squad officers responded and heard the 39-year-old female victim screaming for help inside the home. Officers observed Mendez exiting the kitchen and entering a hallway holding a knife covered in blood. Officers gave verbal commands for Mendez to drop the knife but he refused to comply. As Mendez approached, officers were able to disarm and eventually subdue him and placed him under arrest.

Both victims were transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment and are in stable condition.
