A Bethpage man has been arrested for assaulting a firefighter.
an Assault that occurred on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 3:55 PM in Bethpage.
Nassau County Eighth Squad officers responded to a N. Windhorst Avenue residence for an auto accident at approximately 3:20 p.m. It was determined that a 16-year-old male was operating a 2024 black BMW when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a house. There were two additional males, 16 and 17 years old, inside the car. There were no injuries reported as a result of the accident.
The Bethpage Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident. While a 52-year-old male firefighter was acting in his official capacity inside of the damaged home, Salvatore Conte, 70, of 182 N. Windhorst Avenue, became irate and began pushing him, causing an injury to his hip. Officers attempted to place Conte under arrest, but he resisted. Officers utilized their Tasers to subdue Conte and placed him under arrest. The injured firefighter was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Conte is charged with sceond-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to be arraigned on October 21 at First District Court in Hempstead.
