Nesconset Man Dies in House Fire

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a house fire that killed a man in Nesconset.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to 2 Highland Place after a 911 caller reported a fire at 5:25 p.m. Thomas Walz, a resident of the home, was taken out of the house by first responders before police arrived.

Walz, 62, was transported via ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. There were no other people in the house at the time of the fire and no other injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but does not appear to be criminal at this time.
