Arrest Made in Elder Scam in Inwood

A Brooklyn man was arrested for an elder scam and a grand larceny that happened in Inwood.

On October 2 at 9:25 a.m., a 73-year-old female victim received a call from an unknown suspect claiming to work for her bank’s fraud department. The suspect told the victim there were fraudulent charges on her bank card and they would arrange for someone to pick up the card from her. The victim realized she was being scammed and contacted Nassau County Police for assistance.

Detectives coordinated with the victim and were able to locate Darren Saunders, 28, of 600 E. 21st Street. He was placed under arrest without incident at 5 p.m. the same day. Subsequent to the investigation, Saunders was also found to be in possession of a fraudulent driver’s license and a fraudulent credit card.

Saunders was charged with fourth-degree attempted grand larceny, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument. He was scheduled to be arraigned on October 3 at First District Court in Hempstead.
