Roosevelt Man Arrested for Impersonating Police Officer

A Roosevelt man was arrested for impersonating a police officer after he placed handcuffs on a woman who was arguing with his girlfriend.

On September 22 at 9 p.m., Leonardo Argueta, 57, of 53 W Centennial Avenue, approached a female victim, 31, at Ruby Deli, located at 151 Nassau Road in Roosevelt, who was having a dispute with his girlfriend. Argueta verbally identified himself as an undercover police detective and put the victim in handcuffs. Both the victim and the bystanders threatened to call the police. Argueta removed the handcuffs and fled the scene.

On September 23, police arrested Argueta without incident. He was charged with second-degree criminal impersonation and second-degree unlawful imprisonment. He was released on an appearance ticket and scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on October 11.
