One Killed in Collision on Southern State Parkway

One person was killed in a collision that occurred on the Southern State Parkway.

On September 22 at approximately 10:30 p.m., New York State Troopers responded to the Southern State Parkway westbound in the vicinity of exit 39S in the town of Babylon for a report of a two-car collision. A white Honda Civic operated by Felix Jose Pantaleon Tavarez, 22, of Lindenhurst, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a gray Honda CRV operated by Reynaldo Collado, 49, of West Babylon.

The collision caused both vehicles to exit the roadway and come to rest in the tree line. Collado was pronounced dead at the scene. The four additional occupants for the CRV, as well as Pantaleon Tarvarez, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
