(Photo Courtesy of the Town of Smithtown) The next community meeting on the Kings Park Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant will take place on September 12.
The Town of Smithtown, in conjunction with the State of New York, will hold its second Community Meeting for the Kings Park Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) on September 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at R.J.O. Intermediate School, located at 99 Old Dock Road in Kings Park. The meeting will take place in the Cafeteria Room and is open to the public.
During this interactive community event, participants will be updated on the DRI and view presentations of the project proposals. During the workshop, the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback and evaluations on the potential project submissions.
This past January, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that Kings Park was the winner of $10 million in DRI funding. This is one of the largest annual grants awarded by New York State to one community in each of the state’s ten Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) regions. The DRI works to transform downtown neighborhoods into vibrant communities.
In addition to the community workshop, the fifth DRI Local Planning Committee (LPC) working meeting will be held on October 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kings Park High School, Room 101, located at 200 Rte 25A in Kings Park. All LPC meetings are working group sessions for committee members. While these meetings are open to the public, they are not intended to be interactive public workshops. At the end of each LPC meeting, there will be a public comment period (approximately ten minutes).
