Man Killed in Bay Shore House Fire

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a house fire that killed a man in Bay Shore.

Third Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at a home, located at 16 Oklahoma Ave., on August 27 at 12:26 p.m. A resident of the home, Artemio Gonzalez, had been removed from the house by a family member, a good Samaritan and a Third Precinct officer.

Gonzalez, 77, was transported to South Shore Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The family member and a Third Precinct officer were transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Following a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature.
