The dismal performance by Darline Graham in the U.S. Senate debate in South Carolina was so egregious that it could only be described as disqualifying.
Ms. Graham derived a great deal of sympathy upon the death of her brother, former Senator Lindsay Graham, who held a position as South Carolina’s senator for numerous terms. He was an international figure with a reputation for being a highly informed pro-America advocate on foreign policy, which makes it all the more appalling that Ms. Graham —- who was appointed by the South Carolina governor to fill her brother‘s term — drew a total blank on a question related to national security.
When asked if China and the South China Sea national security issues, Ms. Graham responded, “I am really not that informed about national security.” This is appalling for just about any candidate who would be running for the Senate, but most alarming is the fact that Ms. Graham currently sits as an appointed Senator in the United States government.
How lazy do you have to be not to at least take the time to learn the basics about American foreign policy? Moreover, the campaign aides and handlers who prepped her for this debate should be banished from politics in the future.
This was an unforgivable act of political malpractice. Unfortunately, President Trump is doubling down on Ms. Graham for the position. Hopefully, she will lose the primary this Tuesday because, if she wins, an opening will exist for the Democrats. How can anyone justify casting a vote for a senatorial candidate who admits that she knows nothing about national security or foreign policy?
