Landlords Should Be Compensated for COVID Eviction Restrictions

By Steve Levy

Did you hear about the lawsuit where various landlords are seeking reimbursement from the government for having denied them the right to evict tenants who failed to pay their rent during Covid?

Good for them and we hope they win and collect every cent past due. We understand that, during the pandemic, everyone was panicking and some government officials bent over backwards to keep more people from becoming homeless. So there might’ve been some justification in additional tenant protections during that time.

But if the government was going to tell homeowners that they could not evict a tenant who didn’t pay their bill, then the government had an obligation to reimburse those homeowners.

It’s about time!
