We are sick and tired of so many elected officials lashing out against the horrible idea of sanctuary cities and, yet, doing absolutely nothing about it.
Well, now with Congressman Nick LaLota (R-Rocky Point), we finally have a representative who is being bold enough to say: enough!
The congressman is telling the Democratic officials on the east end of Long Island, who are ordering their law enforcement agencies to refrain from cooperating with federal law enforcement, that the jig is up.
These terrible East End sanctuary policies, says LaLota, are going to come to an end, or else he is going to stop providing his discretionary earmark funds to these lawless jurisdictions. Good for him.
These Democratic officials are out of their minds in allowing criminal aliens to wander our streets. That’s exactly what they’re doing when they order their workers not to cooperate with federal authorities who want to remove the criminals who threaten our residents.
Early this month, a young girl walking home from school in Huntington was sexually assaulted by an illegal alien. This tragedy, like every crime committed by an illegal alien, is preventable if the people we elect to protect us would simply work together to get these dangerous people off our streets.
But so many of these Democratic officials have joined hands with the radical not-for-profit groups, such as OLA on the East End, that preach open borders.
The radical left wants as many people as possible here illegally to stay indefinitely so they can maximize aid to their jurisdictions and their not-for-profit groups. They want these individuals counted in the U.S. Census to boost the number of Democratic seats, and, of course, they want to legalize these undocumented individuals and have them voting in future elections.
Meanwhile, our emergency rooms are filled to the brim. Our teachers are diverted into dealing with the flood of children who must receive special services. Taxpayers are burdened by providing free healthcare, shelter, and food assistance to those here illegally. And the massive influx of newcomers has put additional strain on the competitive housing market, raising rents to record levels.
And of course, we cannot ignore the fact that so many crimes that are committed would never happen if our leaders simply coordinated with each other to take the criminal illegal aliens off our streets.
East End Democratic leaders have refused to cooperate with federal officials to rid our communities of these violent offenders. So why should any congressman reward them with their discretionary earmarks?
Bravo to Nick LaLota for taking a brave stand. We hope that his colleagues do the same.
The fact that sanctuary states and cities could’ve existed this long is a disgrace to our nation.
It’s amazing that a court has not, at this point, ruled these actions are an unconstitutional violation of the Supremacy Clause. A very good case could also be made that these elected officials promoting sanctuary cities are violating federal law by harboring illegal aliens and aiding and abetting their willful violation of our laws.
It’s not going to be easy to right the ship that was driven into an iceberg by the Biden administration via his open border policies. But LaLota’s actions are the first concrete move we’ve seen by a congressman to actually do something about it.
