Florida Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar R-West Miami) recently released a commercial lambasting the Trump administration‘s immigration policy.
While applauding a tightening of the border, she claims that President Trump “betrayed” Hispanics by deporting illegal immigrants who didn’t commit further crimes after they arrived.
Someone please tell us when the law was changed to say that any illegal immigrant who doesn’t commit a subsequent crime is now immune from deportation.
Disingenuously, Salazar claims that her Dignity Act, which would give these illegals a pathway to citizenship, is not amnesty.
Who are you kidding, Congresswoman?
When you tell a person who crossed the border illegally that they will not be deported and will soon be able to become a citizen, that is the definition of amnesty.
What the congresswoman fails to understand is that the reason the illegal immigration numbers have dropped so dramatically is the messaging that has emanated from the Trump administration.
The president has said that the welcome mat is no longer being rolled out. You have to come in the proper way. He knows that the minute you grant amnesty, as Salazar wishes to do, the message goes out that crossing the border illegally is worth the cost and the risk.
That’s the lesson Spain failed to learn when its Marxist-leaning prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, decided to grant amnesty to its nation’s illegal immigrants earlier this year. Within a matter of months, a flood of 60,000 new immigrants were coming ashore in southern Spain.
Salazar knows this, but pushes amnesty anyway in a crass attempt to bolster her numbers with the Trump haters in her district. It’s a short-term political gain, but a long-term disaster for our nation.
